Atmospheric and beautiful: Toad Hall
lies in the countryside near Swilland
village in Suffolk Coastal District.
This is a truly rural area with lots of farming and little traffic on
narrow lanes. The nearby ancient town
of Woodbridge on the River Deben has many fine restaurants, antique and book
shops. The area is full of villages with good pubs, sites of interest (we
particularly enjoyed Sutton Hoo and the Mechanical Music Museum) and riding, golf, fishing
etc. |
Three beautiful houses for getting
together with family or friends in a paradise for walking, fishing and
stalking or just exploring. Corporate lets also popular. The
Glencarron Estate is in Wester Ross, a very beautiful area in
the Scottish Highlands. The Estate is
in the west of the central Highlands about 50 miles west of Inverness, having
easy access to the beaches on the west coast and the sites and activities
(including golf and distillaries) in both the west
and east. The estate is ideal for
Munro baggers, with 3 Munros (mountains or hills
over 3,000 ft.) on the estate and 8 others within 10 miles. There is
salmon, brown trout and sea trout fishing on 3km of the River Carron and a
large accessible Loch and also trout and char fishing on two hill lochs on
the Estate. A boat is available by
arrangement. Plentiful stag and hind stalking with the estate stalker
is available in season. Clay pigeon shooting may also be arranged. Under
one hour's drive from Inverness, 3 hours from Aberdeen and 4 hours from
Edinburgh, with many value flights from London Heathrow or Gatwick, Luton, Bristol etc. to
these cities); local shops are in the villages of Achnasheen
and Lochcarron.
Please see the end of this page for Scottish links. |

GLENCARRON AND GLENUAIG ESTATE RULES AND IMPORTANT
WARNINGS: No shooting, fishing or other hunting or trapping of
any kind is permitted on the Glencarron and Glenuaig Estate without the express written permission of
the owners. You may not bring firearms or other weapons onto the
estate without the express written permission of the owner and you will be
required to ask the stalker to put firearms in a gun cabinet on arrival and
when not in use. Use of your own firearms will be at the discretion of the
Estate Stalker. All shooting activities are on condition that you
wear ear protectors – please ask the stalker for these if you do not
have any – and observe gun safety. No off road driving is permitted on the Estate. All fishing is strictly by fly and all salmon and
sea trout are strictly on a catch and release basis. The details of all catches must be faithfully reported to
the estate stalker at East Cottage. We
reserve the right to require you not to fish further on the estate waters if
we consider that you are abusing the facilities or not giving due
consideration to others legitimately fishing on the estate. For those hiring a property on the estate
there is no further charge for fishing providing that you abide by these
Estate Rules and inform us in writing that you are bringing a rod. Use of the row boat must be by prior arrangement and
is entirely at your own risk and on condition that you act
responsibly, conduct your own risk assessment before you begin, supervise all
children and you all wear appropriate buoyancy aids (there are some hanging
in Glencarron Lodge gun room but I cannot guarantee
the numbers and sizes of them so you should bring your own if you have them
and want to be sure to have the appropriate sizes). The Loch can have strong
currents so that a grown man may not be able to row across it and it is very
deep in places. It is a condition of your
hiring of property on the estate and of permission for any activity
whatsoever that you do on the estate, that you obtain the owner’s written
permission for the activity, you undertake a full risk assessment of doing
any activity and take all reasonable precautions to remove all possible risks
to yourselves, other people, livestock, the land and all flora and
fauna associated with it and the property and any other risk whatsoever.
You do such activities entirely at your own risk. For all activities, children
under sixteen must be accompanied by sufficient adult parents or carers (over 21 years of age) to look after them and take
responsibility for them. It is at the stalker’s discretion to refuse
to take groups out whose composition he considers poses an unacceptable risk. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ GLENCARRON AND GLENUAIG ESTATE – STALKING, FISHING, WILDLIFE AND OTHER ACTIVITIES ALL PRICES INCLUDE VAT AND A SUPPLEMENT FOR THE SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT SPORTING RATE LEVY. 2018 Prices subject to possible variation for the 2018/19 season. All activities subject to Estate rules above. There is plenty to do and
see in the area. I can tell you about
golf courses, visits to the woollen mill, distilleries, beaches,
restaurants, pubs and local fresh food suppliers, etc,. or even a two/three piece
Ceilidh band. Please ask me and see also the links below. Below are the wildlife and sporting activities
usually available on the Estate. PHOTO STALKING OR NATURE SPOTTING WALKS: (All year round) Wild
life on the estate includes resident eagles, red grouse, ptarmigan, snipe,
woodcock, mountain hare, pine martens, otters, badgers, foxes, red and roe
deer and moles (!) who live at 2000 feet.
But there is no guarantee that you will see any of these. For a fee of £90 for the day the stalker would take you out on
to the hills and get you as close as possible to deer to photograph
them. It is best to limit the size of your stalking group to about 6
people. Our stalkers have been working on the estate for many
years between them and know it very well indeed and are expert at getting
close to deer. The estate is
rugged and you do need to be quite fit. You take
your own photographic equipment. In addition to the fee the
stalker appreciates a gratuity of say around £20 for a successful day.
It is important not to wear too dark, light or bright clothes when stalking. Greens and browns blend in with the hill
best – you should also not wear clothes which are too noisy. If
this does interest you, you should arrange it with me in advance please. You
will need walking boots or wellingtons. CLAY PIGEON SHOOTING: The cost of clay pigeon shooting is £40 per group
for a couple of hours, for however many of you wish to do it, inclusive of tuition from our stalker, gun, trap and ear protectors supplied plus the cost of clays and cartridges
(50 clays and cartridges currently costs £25)
In addition to this the stalker appreciates a gratuity, say £20 or £25
for the morning. FISHING: (Salmon and Sea trout: 11th February to
15th October but see below; Brown trout: 15th March to
6th October. – In recent years these seasons have been
extended to the end of October.) There
is no charge for fishing for those staying in a property on the estate;
others should enquire for day prices. We have a large loch with a boat which
you would be welcome to use by prior arrangement on condition that you wear
buoyancy aids (there are some hanging in Glencarron
Lodge gun room but I cannot guarantee sizes or numbers so please supply your
own if you want to be sure to have sufficient)and make a full risk assessment and mittigate all risks as far as possible and about three miles of spate
river, the Carron, and we catch trout, salmon and brown trout. In the
last few seasons, the best salmon caught on our stretch of river was 20
lbs. Trout and sea trout up to 6.5lbs
are caught in the Loch. Over 200 salmon and the same number of sea
trout were caught in each recent season on the entire Carron system. The fishing
is marginally better in July and later in the summer and autumn, although for
salmon the level of the river is really what counts. There are also two
hill lochs which have brown trout and char and are, respectively, about an
hour's walk from Glencarron Lodge and two hours walk from Glenuaig Lodge
into the estate. The stalker who lives on the estate would be happy to
help you identify the good spots, or to ghillie for
you, other estate work and guests permitting.
If you would like him to ghillie for you for
a day the cost would be £90 or £50 for a morning and in addition to this he
would appreciate a gratuity of say £25 to £30 for a successful outing.
Please arrange fishing with us before your stay.
We have two rods and tackle available for hire at £10 a day, if you
are not bringing your own – please book this with us before your
stay. Fishing on beats nearer the sea may also be arranged. We operate a strict catch and release policy for salmon
and sea trout and fishing is strictly fly only (although we are more relaxed
for children under 11). Please let us
know if you intend to bring a rod. It
is a condition of fishing on the estate that you report the details of all catches to the
Estate Stalker at East Cottage. STAG STALKING (1st July to 20th
October): The price for
stalking a stag, with stalker, rifle, ammunition, etc
inclusive, is £440 inclusive of VAT for those taking a property on the
Estate. In the rare event that the
stalker does not take the client within shooting range of a stag, the price
for the day out is £150. The form is
to give the stalker a gratuity for a successful day in the order of £30
- £50 per gun. The estate is rugged and you do need to be quite
fit. You would also have to help the stalker drag the beasts off the
hill as far as the Argocat. (If you wanted a ghillie to help drag beasts off the hill, this would cost
another £140 per day; you need to book this in advance). The venison remains the property of the
estate. If you would like to take the
antlers home, we will arrange for the stalker to cut and clean them for a fee
of £25. Prior to going on the hill the
stalker will take the client to a target to check that the client can hit a
six inch circle at approximately 100 yards.
The choice of stag to kill is entirely at the discretion of the
stalker. It may be possible to shoot
more than one stag in a day if you wish; thus two guns may go out together
with the stalker and up to two others may accompany them. In October it may be possible to have a
second stalking party out on the hills.
Please enquire if you wish us to arrange this. HIND STALKING
(21st October to 15th February): The cost of
hind stalking for those staying on the estate is £170 per day for one gun and £210 per day for two guns (and
up to another two persons walking along) with one stalker. For hind
stalking, if you want a second stalker so you have two parties out on the hill
there is a charge of £210 for the second stalker. The venison remains the property of the
Estate. We supply the guns and ammunition. The stalker takes the guns
to the target prior to going on the hill to check that they can hit a six
inch circle at about 100 yards. The
form is at your discretion to give the stalker a gratuity for a
successful day in the order of £30 - £50 per gun. The estate is rugged
and you do need to be quite fit. You would also have to help the
stalker drag the beasts off the hill as far as the Argocat.
(If you wanted a ghillie to help drag beasts off
the hill, this would cost another £140 per day; you need to book this in advance). |
